Lester V. Dowler
Lester V. Dowler, 85, of Parkersburg passed away Aug. 10, 2005, at Eagle Pointe Personal Care Center.
He was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Wood County, a son of the late Arthur E. and Pearl Allen Dowler. Lester was a U.S. Army veteran; was retired from the Refiners Transport as a truck driver; and was a loyal caregiver for his wife for 20 years.
Lester is survived by three daughters, Dianne McClung of Mineral Wells, Patty and her husband, Bob Williams, of St. Marys, Rose and her husband, Paul Jackson, of Belleville; two sons, Paul and his wife, Lee Dowler, of Williamstown and Ray and his wife, Kathy Dowler, of Parkersburg; two brothers, Arthur and Richard Dowler; four sisters, Opal Deem, Roberta Kesterson, Betty Dowler and Vera Henry; nine grandchildren, Craig Williams, Brett Williams, Dixi Gathman, Angela Richardson, Leslie Dowler, David Dowler, James Dowler, Amanda Dowler and Ian Brown; six great-grandchildren, Alana, Hannah and Regan Williams, Eli Brown, Miah and Anna Gathman and Laura Richardson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Clara Houck Dowler on Jan. 27, 2005; one son-in-law, Ed McClung; one grandson, Jeremiah Jackson; three brothers, Bernard, Harold and Clarence Dowler; and two sisters, Jean Acree and Ruth Deem.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, with Pastor Randy Kochersperger officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen South Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg.

Lester Dowler was the son of Art E. and Pearl Dowler and had at least 8 siblings. He
enlisted in the Army on Aug 8, 1941 in Huntington, WV and volunteered for parachutist
duty. He was assigned to Company A of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd
Airborne Division.
Besides the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart he also was awarded the Good Conduct Medal
as well as various other decorations.
Lester enlisted in the Army on Aug 8, 1941 in Huntington, WV and volunteered for parachutist duty. He was assigned to Company A of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.
