Richard E. Auch
Richard E. Auch, age 85 of Menno passed away Friday, August 20, 2004, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at the Zion Reformed Church in Menno, SD, with Rev. Hans Kalkman officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery with military graveside rites by Rames-Bender American Legion Post #152, Menno.
Visitations will be from 1-9 p.m. Monday, August 23, 2004, at the Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, with the family present from 7-9 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Roger Auch, Duane Auch, Daniel Auch, Douglas Auch, Glenn Lang and Ray Woehl.
Richard Auch was born July 27, 1919, to Emanuel and Salamina (Schoppert) Auch. He was baptized at Johannestal Reformed Church by Rev. Buettel and confirmed June 24, 1934 by Rev. William Hueneman. Richard was a lifelong member of Zion Reformed Church and served as an elder, deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher for many years. Richard served in the U.S. Army World War II under General Patton from June 1942-February 1946. He served in three major overseas battles and received the European Theatre Medal and the Bronze Star. On October 12, 1944, Richard was united in marriage to Adella Oswald at Zion Evangelical Church southeast of Menno by Rev. Lyle Krueger. After being discharged from the Army, they made their home northwest of Menno where he farmed his entire life. They moved to Menno in 1985 and continued helping on the farm. Richard always enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Adella of Menno, SD; one son, Terry, and his wife Marion of Menno, SD; two grandchildren, Kevin Auch and his wife Brenda of Freeman, SD, and Kristi and her husband Corey Stahl of Freeman, SD; three great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Paige Auch and Brandon Stahl; four brothers: Arnold Auch and his wife Betty of Sioux Falls, SD; Eugene Auch and his wife Luella of Menno, SD; Robert Auch and his wife Alvina of Lesterville, SD; and Edwin Auch and his wife Shirley of Menno, SD; two sisters, Ruth Lang of Menno, SD and Esther Jantzen of Tipton, KS; and one sister-in-law, Alitha Peterson of Yankton, SD.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Ervin and Harold and one sister Ella.
