Elmer Oswald Published: Saturday, January 22, 2011 12:20 AM CST MENNO - Elmer Carl Oswald, age 90 of Menno passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Olivet United Methodist Church in Olivet, SD with Rev. Tom Petersen officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Christian Auch, Kevin Smidt, Lonnie Schultz, Gordon Streyle, Jim Woehl, and Dale Hora. The Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, is in charge of arrangements. Elmer was born on February 18, 1920 in Yankton County to Henry and Regina (Schaeffer) Oswald. He was raised on a farm north of Yankton. On October 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lora Auch at the Johannestahl Reformed Church in rural Freeman, SD. They farmed with his parents in Yankton County before moving north of Olivet to continue farming. In 1981, they moved into Menno where Elmer worked for Smidt Furniture for many years and mowed lawns. He also enjoyed helping Lora with the many children she babysat for. He enjoyed dancing, visiting with friends, and working at and watching baseball games. Elmer and Lora worked hard and took pride in the caretaking of the two museums in Menno and at Pioneer Acres. Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Lora Oswald of Menno, SD; five sisters: Elda, Adella, Hulda, Leona (Eileen) and her husband, Elmer, and Eleanora, all of Menno, SD; brother-in-law, Victor of Menno, SD, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Those who preceded him in death are his parents, brother, Edmund, sisters: Edna and her husband, Albert, Viola and her husbands, Paul, Sr. and Ralph, Ardena, and Martha and her husband, Art, and brothers-in-law, Ervin, Richard, Walter, Gus, Art, Paul and his wife, and Calvin.
