GEORGE LAMBERTUS:Before settling on a farm just north of Lanesville, Indiana, George and family lived in Pennsylvania for eight years. When they arrived in Indiana they settled on a 60 acre tract of rolling wooded land. They were drawn to the area by Mr. Seckle, a half-brother of George's wife. He owned a small farm which ajoined George's property. George paid $400 for the farm which became known as the "homeplace." It is still in the ownership of a descendent of the family today. At a later time an additional forty acres was purchased in adjoining land bringing the total land to one hundred acres. The land purchased belonged to Mr. Richmer and wife. The farm had a few cattle, hogs, chickens and was used to raise hay and grain crops. The nearest town was Lanesville, a couple of miles, and the distance to Louisville was twenty-three miles. The family was propably Lutheran as they soon became members of the local Lutheran Church just south of Lanesville.
