Louis B. Haas, Sr., 90, of Evansville passed away Wednesday August 24, 2011 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
He was born December 18, 1920 to William Cullen Haas and Jeanette (Hoeppel) Haas.
He was a graduate of F.J. Reitz High School. During his service to our country he witnessed the horrors of Nazi Germany, where he was a foot soldier in the 65th Infantry. Mr. Haas completely and successfully devoted his life to music as a musician and a teacher. He retired at the age of 80 from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation, as a repairman for the music department. He also was one of the few piano tuners in the tri-state until his retirement. An accomplished musician, Mr. Haas performed with the Evansville Philharmonic and managed the Louis Haas Jazz Band entertaining for decades. He enjoyed memberships in many organizations including The Scottish Rite, No-Ruz-Grotto, Hadi Shrine, Constellation Lodge, Germania Maennerchor, VFW #1114, and was a lifetime member of the Nashville Musicians Association #257. He was a long time member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Mr. Haas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Barbara Jean Haas in 2007; brothers William C. Haas, Jr., Eugene (Gene) Haas; grandson Fredrick (Nate) Haas.
He is survived by sons Louis B. Haas, Jr. and wife Barbara Sue of Murfreesboro, TN and Frederick Haas and wife Kelly of Evansville; daughter Barbara L. Haas of Ames, IA; grandchildren Vickie Riley, Sara Bailey, Penny Haas, Corissa Sale, Isaiah Huber; great granddaughter Kairi Lyric Sale.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday August 28, 2011 at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Ave., Evansville, IN 47710 and continuing from 9:00 - 11:00 am Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday August 29, 2011 at the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Long officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct graveside services.
