Dorothy "Dot" Evelyn Miller Stephan, 86, of Marietta, passed away on Monday (April 18, 2011) at Heartland of Marietta.
She was born on April 1, 1925, on the family farm in Noble County, Ohio, a daughter of Carl Roy and Freda Ethel Nieb Miller. She was confirmed in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and grew up in the Harrietsville/Lebanon area, later living at Mount Vernon and Bartlett before moving to Marietta in 1982. Dorothy was a homemaker and farmer for over 40 years and had worked for Washington County Clerk of Counts, Kremer Shoe Store, housemother of Sigma Kappa Sorority at Marietta College, and the propeller division of Remington Rand during World War II. She graduated from Elk Local High School in 1943 and from Washington Technical College in accounting in 1976.
On April 13, 1946, she married Richard McCoy Stephan, who preceded her in death on April 21, 1958. Dorothy is survived by three sons and two daughters: Janis (Gary) Barnes, Richard Stephan, Larry (Charlene) Stephan, Jeffrey (Jane) Stephan, Judy McAtee; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lloyd Harold Miller; and granddaughter, Alexandra Stephan.
At her request, her body was donated to medical school and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are requested to Ohio Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 5, Marietta.
