Son of Valentin GEIGER (buried in the old Rapides Cemetery, Pineville, Rapides, LA) and of Anna Maria GREIDENWEIS Geiger (burial as yet unknown) and husband of Minerva ("Minnie") NICHOLES Geiger (with whom he is buried in the same plot). They married on 26 Dec 1880 in Fayette County, Texas, and had six children together.
In the 1850's, at the time of his immigration to America, his place of birth (the village of Göcklingen bei Landau) belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria.
After immigration he no longer used the original German form of his first name (Franz) but rather Francis, shortened to Frank.
He was a carpenter and contractor in Houston.

He died on 14 November 1846 in Göcklingen, Pfalz, Bayern. He married MARIA SIBILLA STRAUB (born ca. 1791, died on 23 April 1851 in Göcklingen), parents, date & place of marriage unknown. I possess copies of Michael's and Sibilla's Göcklingen death records. I have the names of their nine known children, among whom was my 2nd great grandmother ANNA MARIA GREIDENWEIS, their fourth child, who was born on 12 May 1821 in Göcklingen and died on 09 September 1872 in Jackson, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, USA. Anna Maria married VALENTIN GEIGER (the son of Philipp Jacob Geiger & Maria Apollonia Bentz, who was born on 15 November 1820 in Kuhardt, Pfalz, Bayern, and died on 15 January 1898 in Alexandria, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, USA) on 17 April 1856 in Göcklingen. Anna Maria Greidenweis & Valentin Geiger had three children, two of whom immigrated in the 1850's with them to Louisiana and had descendants. My great grandfather was their oldest child, JOHANN JACOB GEIGER, who was born on 30 October 1845 in Göcklingen and died on 09 June 1907 in Alexandria. On 18 July 1867 in Alexandria Jacob Geiger married FELONISE CELINE LEVY, the daughter of EDOUARD LEVY & ATHALIE HERNANDEZ, who was born on 27 December 1850 near Colfax, Grant Parish, Louisiana, USA, and died on 03 November 1928 in San Francisco, S.F. County, California, USA, and had six children with her, only two of whom lived to maturity: my grandfather WILLIAM HENRY PATRICK GEIGER Sr. (1868-1906) and his brother Dr.Dr.mult. JACOB CASSON GEIGER (1885-1981). The two-volume study (which I possess) by Gerhard Geiger & Roland Eiswirth, "Kuhardt: Orts- und Familienchronik" (Kuhardt, 1994), gives the ancestors of my second great grandfather Valentin Geiger back to ca. 1672.
