William J. "Bill" Trautman, 88, Bismarck, died Dec. 1, 2003, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bill was born Jan. 27, 1915, at Tuttle, N.D., to John and Johanna (Eissinger) Trautman. He was raised and educated at Tuttle. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1934 to 1938. On Sept. 24, 1938, he married Mathilda (Tillie) Lanz at Mandan. She died in 1983. They farmed in the Wing area until 1956, when they moved to Mandan. He worked at the Mandan Creamery until 1961, when they moved to Onamia, Minn. They returned to Bismarck upon their retirement in 1981.
Bill is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Ronald Frank, Shields, and Kathleen and Jerry Winkler, Elk River, Minn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Kim Trautman, Marysville, Calif.; 10 grandsons; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sons, James and Ronald; one grandson, John Trautman; his stepmother, Hertha (Hattie); and one brother, Herald.
