Leo R. Lanz, 68, 104 W. Antelope Street, Mandan, died June 16, 2000 at his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Feeney officiating, with full committal services at North Dakota Veterans' Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, with a parish vigil at 7 p.m. tonight.
Leo was born on Nov. 15, 1931 in St. Anthony, the son of Michael J. and Magdalena (Helbling) Lanz. He was raised and educated in Mandan. Leo graduated from Mandan High School in 1948 and joined the Army.
Leo's military career in the US Army began in 1948 to 1970 where he retired as a Sergeant First Class. During his time in the military he served as a chemical warfare specialist serving in Korea from 1950-1953 and Vietnam from 1967-1968. He married Shirley Fitzsimmons in Colorado. He then married Nam-Sun Lee in 1969 in Korea. He continued to live in Korea until 1973, when he and his family moved to Mandan, where he lived since and during which time he was an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha.
He enjoyed fishing, playing pinochle and having his family around.
He is survived by his wife, Nam-Sun, Mandan; two sons, Sung-Su and his wife, Young-Ae Lanz, Bismarck, and James Lanz, Colorado; twin daughters, Jane and Janice, Colorado; three grandchildren, Tina, Sophia and Jeff Lanz; one sister, Josephine Meyers, Lebec, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Magdalena; six brothers and six sisters. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
