DICKINSON - Janice "Jan" R. Fitterer, 58, Dickinson, died July 14, 2007, at her home. Jan's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, July 18, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher presiding.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. MDT today at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, where a rosary and vigil will be held at 7 p.m. MDT, with Deacon Ray Jilek presiding.
Janice Rose Leingang, the youngest of 12, was born Aug. 5, 1948, in Bismarck, the daughter of George G. and Rose (Haider) Leingang. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School, in 1966. She moved to Dickinson and received her LPN degree from the School of Practical Nursing, in 1967.
Jan married Edwin Fitterer Feb. 27, 1986, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She worked at St. Benedict's Health Center, until 1996, when she became the nursing director at the Evergreen. In 1997, Jan became the director of the Evergreen, a position that she had held since. Jan also held the position of regional director for the Evergreen, the CountryHouse, and the Kensington, in Williston.
Jan had a fondness for the Relay for Life and the Central Dakota Humane Society. She enjoyed reading, game shows, going for walks and trips to the casino, but her faith and her family were the dearest things to her.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin; two children, Toby Hauck, Bend, Ore., and Jessica (Jon) Burger, Bismarck; four sisters, Helen (Bill) Kuntz, Mandan, Carolyn (Richard) Bullinger, Bismarck, Eldean (Bill) Fitterer, Mandan, and Laura (Dick) Wicaryus, Capron, Ill.; six brothers, Frank Leingang, Mandan, Raymond (Nell) Leingang, Mandan, Arnie (Georgiana) Leingang, Mandan, Leo Leingang, Bismarck, Bob (MaryAnn) Leingang, Mandan, and Ron (Betty) Leingang, Bismarck; one grandson, Andrew Burger; and one step-granddaughter, Jessalyn Burger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant sister, Janize; and her special love who was her friend and protector, "Taz."
