Clementine was born Dec. 14, 1917, to Anton and Catherina (Miller) Leingang in St. Anthony. She graduated from Mandan High School and Capital Commercial College and worked at the North Dakota State Capital for the Tax Department until her marriage to Jack Steckler on June 19, 1940, in St. Anthony.
Clementine and Jack moved to Wichita, Kan., for a short time after their marriage later returning to St. Anthony where they owned and operated Jack’s Service and where Clementine was the bookkeeper. She was always a gracious hostess and mastered many German dishes that she would serve to her family and friends. Family was always the central focus for Clementine and she would have large family gatherings where her generosity and hospitality would shine. She enjoyed planting and caring for her vegetable and flower gardens, and preserved much of what she harvested. Clementine crocheted beautiful dollies that have become family heirlooms. She and Jack could be found often fishing along the Missouri River which was an enjoyable pastime for them both. These memories will be cherished by family and friends.
