Arlouis ?Al? Gartner, age 77, died Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Medcenter One in Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Central time held on Monday, November, 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB, Celebrant. Visitation will begin on Sunday after 4:00 pm at Sacred Heart with the Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin. Al was born October 28, 1929 in rural Glen Ullin the son of Michael and Celestina (Steiner) Gartner. He was raised on the farm and educated in a one room school house. He married Laura Schaaf May 14, 1951 at Sacred Heart in Glen Ullin. They lived in Glendive where Al worked at the round house for the then Northern Pacific Railroad. They decided that the country life was what they preferred and began farming. Al had set a goal of having a ranch of his own, because he enjoyed working with livestock. They lived at several places along the way, and settled on their present place in 1977. He enjoyed being involved in a number of community activities including the Glen Ullin Museum, Glen Ullin and Morton County Historical Societies, Morton County Farm Bureau, school board, Knights of Columbus, and the local district Republican Party. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Laura, Glen Ullin, ND; daughter and son-in-law: Perdita and Richard Murray, Depoe Bay, OR; and sons and daughters-in-law: Josh and Linda, Lance and Anissa, all of Glen Ullin and Keith and Virginia, Houston, TX; and his 18 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Al has one sister surviving: Mary Anderson, Dallas, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Frank, Joe, Ed, and John, and his sisters, Minnie Duppong, Agatha Miller, and Kay Milliron.
