Eleanor 'Ellie' Ball
MISSOULA - Eleanor "Ellie" Ball, 85, of Missoula, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Community Medical Center.
She was born July 19, 1918, in Dickinson, N.D., to Jacob and Mary (Fetter) Loran. She received her education in Missoula.
Ellie married Eugene R. Ball in Missoula in February 1938. They had many happy years together. To this union two sons were born, Eugene and Allen.
They lived on Ninth Street in Missoula until moving to Eugene's parents' farm on Seventh in Orchard Homes. There, Ellie was a large part of the work force, raising vegetables and potatoes. They also raised Hereford cattle, which Ellie loved tending. Many a calf was saved in front of the stove.
Ellie and Gene loved getting together with friends to square-dance. In later years, they also enjoyed coming up Nine Mile for potlucks to be with old friends and grandkids.
At election time, you would find Ellie at Hawthorne School counting ballots. She retired from the University of Montana bindery after 20 years and was currently employed by the Missoula School District as an aide. She had also worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Gene and Ellie were also members of Orchard Homes Country Life Club.
Ellie relaxed and entertained her family and friends with her accordion and harmonica, which she was now teaching her great-grandchildren to enjoy. Play on, Ellie; we will hear!
Lately, Ellie enjoyed her early morning jaunts to have coffee with her and Gene's cronies at Liberty Lanes. Ellie was also well known in Orchard Homes for her baking skills, and at many potlucks she served her yummy cinnamon rolls and pastries.
During the holidays and hunting season, everyone always had lots of goodies. The coffee was always on at the Ball house.
Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, we will miss you always, but you'll forever be in our hearts.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Price, Dr. Mikesell, the nurses in ICU at Community Medical Center, Pastor Dan Dixson and Father Ed Hyslop of Pope John XXIII.
Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
We love you
We will miss you too!
So that will be
You and Grandpa
looking down on me.
