Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014, at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Felix Leo Zaunbrecher, 87, who died on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Msgr. Russell Harrington will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Rev. Brian Taylor will be the Concelebrant. Lectors will be Allison Rader and Katie Zaunbrecher. Giftbearers will be all of his granddaughters. Musical selections will be sung by Laura Berard Huval. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Hilda Mary Broussard Zaunbrecher of Breaux Bridge; his five sons, Tom Zaunbrecher and wife Rosemary of Breaux Bridge, Bob Zaunbrecher and wife Jackie of Kingwood, TX., Karl Zaunbrecher and wife Lynda of Saranac Lake, NY., Mike Zaunbrecher and wife Debbi of Baton Rouge, and David Zaunbrecher and wife Lynette of Humble, TX.; his two daughters, Cindy Zaunbrecher Cefalu and husband Tommy of Estilene, TX., and Julie Zaunbrecher Champagne of Lafayette; two sisters, Mary Agnes Fabacher of Iota, and Willietta Phillips of San Antonio, TX.; one brother, Francis "Bud" Zaunbrecher of Abbeville. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick Zaunbrecher and Marie Leonards Zaunbrecher; two brothers, Paul Zaunbrecher and Richard Zaunbrecher; two sisters, Theresa Broussard and JoAnn Ronkartz, and a granddaughter Angela Young. A native of Roberts Cove and a resident of Lafayette Parish most of his life, Felix retired from Halliburton as a Special Operator after 20 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he worked for Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Dept. as a Deputy in the Civil Dept. for 20 years. In his earlier life, Felix was a rice farmer in Gueydan, La. He was member of the St. Genevieve Catholic Church parish for over 50 years where he served as an usher and was also a Third Degree Knight with the KC Council 3202. Felix enjoyed working in his yard and being with his family. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Pallbearers will be Michael Paul Zaunbrecher, Kris Zaunbrecher, Matt Zaunbrecher, Craig Zaunbrecher, Brennan Zaunbrecher, Ross Champagne, and Geoffrey Young. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Sunday, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Felix L. Zaunbrecher's name to St. Genevieve School Foundation, 91 Teurlings Drive, Lafayette, LA. 70501, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
