Florence Lorraine (O’Connell) Pelletier, 87, of Virginia passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Virginia Convalescent Center.
Florence was born Jan. 7, 1922 in Leola, S.D., to Robert and Emma (Hoff) O’Connell. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald (Jay) Pelletier on June 14, 1941 in Cohasset. Together they raised their eight children, enjoying family camping trips and summers at their Lake 14 cabin. They also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, winter trips to Palm Springs, and above all, family gatherings. After Jay’s passing, Florence met her special friend, Willard Niemiste. Together they enjoyed spending time with each others’ families and playing a good game of cribbage. In her healthier days, Florence enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club, cooking and baking for her family, and traveling to visit her children who live out of the area. Florence was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and “honey grandma” who treated others with kindness, patience, and love. She had a smile for everyone who entered her home and will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Florence is survived by her children, Carol Roszak of Virginia, Gerald (Laurie) Pelletier of Federal Way, Wash., Beverly (Robin) Harvey of Saginaw, Brad Pelletier of Britt, Mark (Candice) Pelletier of Apple Valley, Mike (Mary) Pelletier of Virginia, Jeff (Mary) Pelletier of Virginia and Lori (Paul) Swarthout of Omro, Wis.; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Karen (Wayne) Thompson, of Lake Placid, Fla.; brother-in-law, John Gorman, of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald (Jay); sisters, Jane Sloan, Marie Gorman and Eleanor O’Connell; brother, Gene O’Connell; brother-in-law, Jack Sloan; and special friend, Willard Niemiste.
