Paul Henry Brooker, of Churchtown, went home Tuesday (June 16, 2009) to be with the Lord, after visiting this earth for 70 years.
He came here to visit in Washington County on Jan. 14, 1939, with his brothers and sisters and wife and children. While he was visiting, he contributed his time to St. John's Church for 33 years. He also helped out at the post office for many years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the K of C in Churchtown.
Paul is survived by a son, Patrick Brooker (Shannon) of Churchtown; six daughters, Angela Finkel (Kelly) of Marietta, Sheila McAfee of Findlay, Barbara Medlin (Dan) of Beverly, Pam Reiter (Robert) of Caldwell, Sharon Wickerham (Jeff) of Zanesville and Amanda Brooker of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, P. Joseph Brooker (Sheila) of San Francisco, Calif., and Andrew Brooker (Peggy) of Churchtown; three sisters, Dorothy Gantley (Bob) of Norfolk, Va., Rosemary Heiss of Waterford and Gladys Schilling (Frank) of Churchtown; 14 grandchildren, Lance Baker (Lauren), Whitney and Makenzie McAfee, Kyle and Devin Brooker, Alaina and Gabe McGowan, Kyle Medlin and Jordan and Rilee Lockhart, Jonathan Wiechman and Hanna Reiter and Camden and Audrey Wickerham; and many nieces and nephews.
His loved ones who have made the journey home before him were his parents, Albert J. and Ella Huck Brooker; his wife, Betty Lee Camden Brooker; and five brothers, George, Edward, William, Benjamin and Emmett.
Funeral liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday (June 19, 2009) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Virgil Reischman as celebrant. Anyone who wishes to come and wish him a happy journey home may do so at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and anytime up until 8 p.m. on Thursday. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. He asks you to please omit all flowers, but all prayers would be appreciated on his way home.
