Roy W. "Buck" Shaw, 80, of Smithville died Sunday, December 06, 2009, at Autumnwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born November 4, 1929 in Rittman to Henry and Clara (Burkhart) Shaw, and lived in Rittman for 30 years before moving to Smithville in 1986.
He was employed as a truck driver for Marshallville Equity for 36 years and retired in 1991. He was also a courier and a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Roy was a member of the First Wesleyan Church of Rittman where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, a lay minister, and served on the church board. He was a life member of the Smithville Historical Society and Disabled American Veterans. Roy enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, reading and traveling.
He married Ella Mae (DeLong) Shaw on June 12, 1954, and she survives. Also surviving are children, William (Bonnie) Shaw of Rittman; Daniel (Deb) Shaw of Shreve; and Laura (Tim) Stephens of Orrville; grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Jonathon, Danyell, Dustin and Kenneth; and one great-grandchild, Robert; brother, Larry (Kay) Shaw of Rittman, sisters, Doris (Herb) Tressel of Wooster, and Esther Brenneman of Millersburg.
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Shaw, on February 16, 1997, and a grandson, Raymond J. Stephens, on September 2, 2008. Two brothers and a sister also died previously.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Wesleyan Church, 74 Fairlawn Ave., Rittman, with Rev. Paul A. Moore officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 8 from 5-8 P.M. at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Seville.
