CALDWELL - William R. Nau, 87, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Sunday (April 11, 2010) at The Inn at Marietta in Marietta.
He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio, son of the late Urban H. and Mary Veronica "Frona" Miller Nau. He was a 1940 graduate of Dexter City High School, and he was a World War II United States Army veteran, having served in the Europe. He was retired from Central Ohio Coal Company and a member of the United Mine Workers, and he owned and operated a family farm for many years.
Mr. Nau was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, and a member of the Fr. Kleuber Council No. 2565, Knights of Columbus and No. 1736 4th Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Caldwell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4721, a member of the Noble County Farm Bureau, and he also formerly served as a board member for both Caldwell Exempted Village Schools and the Pure Water Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Mildred "Millie" Biedenbach Nau, whom he married June 28, 1947, and who died June 22, 1996; and one sister, Eleanor Froehlich.
Surviving are his children, Sandy S. (Larry) Kudart of Columbus, Rita M. (Bill) Wilson of Caldwell, Denise J. (Art) Leister of Marietta, John W. (Janet) Nau of Caldwell, Mike P. (Yvette) Nau of Caldwell, Dale E. Nau (fiance, LuAnn Shoaf) of Marysville, Mark A. (Kathy) Nau of Clanton, Ala., and Dennis D. (Cheryl) Nau of Valparaiso, Ind.; one sister, Dorothy (Martin) Schumacher of Barnesville; 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call Wednesday (April 14, 2010) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East St., Caldwell, where a Christian Scripture service will follow at 8 p.m. with K of C Rosary to follow. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be observed Thursday (April 15) at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with the Rev. Father Wayne Morris as celebrant. A military graveside service will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Caldwell conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organization.
