SMITHVILLE -- Gary Lee Pittman Sr., 57, of Smithville, died peacefully Wednesday evening, July 22, 2009, at his home after a lengthy illness. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday from 2-5 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in care of Murray Funeral Home, 173 S. Main St., Creston 44217. Gary was born Nov. 19, 1951, in Lodi, the son of the late Glenn and Mary Jane (Yockey) Pittman, and married Carol Lemmon on Nov. 25, 1969. They shared 40 wonderful years together. He retired from Tom's Salvage after 27 years of service and had previously worked at Orrville Products. He had made his home in Smithville for the past 30 years and had enjoyed fishing, car racing and working on cars. He was known as the back-yard mechanic. Surviving in addition to his wife, Carol, are children, Michelle (Jack) Vance of Massillon, Tammy Pittman of Wooster and Gary Pittman Jr. of Smithville; grandchildren, Ryan and Zachary Vance, Katie Kelly, Sarah Hartshorn, Jarrett Erb and Alexis Barns; brothers, Robert Pittman, Carlos (Patti) Pittman and James Pittman, all of Wooster; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene Huff; and brothers, David and Mark Pittman.
