Frank Richard Young | Visit Guest Book LEXINGTON - Frank Richard Young, DDS was born October 4, 1918 and died at Lexington Extended Care on October 27, 2010, after a short illness. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lowell, OH at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Terry Alvarez will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association , 520 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or the Arthritis Foundation , Carolina Chapter, 4530 Park Road, Suite 230, Charlotte, NC 28209. Dr. Young was born in Lowell, Ohio, the son of the late Frank Feldner Young. and Carrie Spies Young. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1936, Ohio University in 1940 and The Ohio State University School of Dentistry, cum laude, in 1943. Dr. Young practiced dentistry in Parkersburg, West Virginia for 42 years. He was proud of his military career serving three years as Captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps during WW II. Dr. Young was a life member of the American Dental Association. He was also a member of the First Christian Church of Lowell, OH, American Legion, Post 15, Parkersburg, WV, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, Lowell Ohio Chapter, Ohio University Alumnae Association and The Ohio State Alumnae Association. He moved to Columbia in January 1993, living with his son and daughter-in-law. He loved sports, reading, spending time with family and the family dogs. He was a very talented wood worker and craftsman. Dr. Young is survived by his son, Dr. Richard W. Young (Sharon) of Columbia; daughter, Judith A. Smith (Reuben) of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Mr. Mark A. Young of Columbia, Dr. Eric R. Young (Amber) of Charlottesville, VA, Dr. Scott W. Young (Monica) of Misawa, Japan, Mrs. Julie A. Saunderlin (Donald) of Collierville, TN, Ms. Mollie Smith of Peoria, AZ and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Ann Young; sisters, Mary Y. Schletzer and Ruth Y. Campbell and his parents.
