CALDWELL - Walter D. Caldwell, 86, of Summit
Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, died at 10:42 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Southeastern Ohio
Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.
He was born Jan.26, 1919, in Sharon Township,
a son of the late Okey and Hettie Wiley Caldwell. After
graduation, he worked for T.W. Paterson until he went
to the Army. He later purchased a farm in Sharon
Township, and also worked as a rural letter carrier
for 28 years for Caldwell Route 5. He graduated from
Forest Grove High School and served in the Army
during World War II in the 330th Combat Engineer
in China, Burma, and India. He was a member of St.
Stephens Catholic Church of Caldwell and American
Legion, DAV and VFW of Caldwell.
Surviving are his wife, Angeline M. Noll Caldwell,
whom he married in 1941; a daughter, Alice and hus-
band Allen Tarleton of Caldwell; a granddaughter,
Carrie and husband Nick Timberlake of Caldwell;
a great-granddaughter, Ella Timberlake of Caldwell;
two sisters, Lois Radcliff of Caldwell and Helen
McCauley of Belle Valley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by two brothers, Robert and Charles Caldwell.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today,
Sept. 2, at the Murphy-McCurdy Funeral Home,
Caldwell with Scripture service at 8:30 p.m.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3,
2005, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Caldwell,
with Father Dale Tornes officiating. Burial will be
in Sharon Cemetery with full military rites by the
Caldwell VFW 4721.
