Katie Kirkpatrick Godwin, 21, of Metamora, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005.
She was born May 26, 1983 to David and Niki Kirkpatrick. She married Nick Godwin on Jan. 15, 2005, at the Hazel Park Church of Christ in Hazel Park.
She was the valedictorian and homecoming queen at Lapeer East High School, class of 2001. She attended Rochester College, a small Christian college in Rochester Hills, in the fall of 2001 on a full academic scholarship. On March 6, 2002, she under went successful brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. In late October 2003, more cancer was found and she fought a valiant battle. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Nick Godwin of Metamora; parents, David and Niki Kirkpatrick of Metamora; sister, Sara (Kevin) Nelms of Metamora; nephew, Jake Nelms of Metamora; grandparents, James and Hazel Kirkpatrick of Southfield and Nick and Geneva Schafsnitz of Prescott, Arizona; aunt, Dawn (Jack) Neveau of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; uncle, Thomas Kirkpatrick of Lake Orion; cousins, Jonathan Neveau of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and April (Tom) Martini of Arizona; and second cousins, Kaitlyn, Jaclyn and Madilyn of Prescott Valley, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you please make contributions to the Katie Kirkpatrick Fund, c/o National City Bank, 950 Dryden Road, Metamora, MI 48455.
Funeral services were Monday (Jan. 24) at the Rochester Church of Christ in Rochester Hills. The Rev. Garth Pleasant officiated.
