From The Zanesville Times Recorder, pg 1, 29 Apr 1964:
NOBLE CO. MAN INJURED
A noble County man was seriously injured shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday when
his automobile crashed into a truck which had been stopped a half mile west of
Cumberland on Ohio 146. The truck driver had given assistance to a South
Zanesville man whose car had just crashed into a culvert.
Edgar Dimmerling, 57, of Caldwell Route 7, received a fractured skull and
broken nose when his westbound car crashed into the tractor-trailer truck
operated by Charles Pack, 40, of Dexter City. He was taken to Good Samar-
itan Hospital in a Tom ambulance from Cumberland. He was listed in fair
condition last night.
Highway patrolman from the Cambridge post said Pack had stopped to assist
Larry Young, 20, of Beechrock drive, South Zanesville, whose car had crashed into
a culvert after he apparently went to sleep at the wheel of his westbound car.
Young was not injured and only moderate damage resulted to the car.
Officers said Pack?s truck was parked partially on the highway but that he had placed
flares as warning signals.
Dimmerling underwent surgery Tuesday morning.
The following appeared in The Zanesville (OH) signal newspaper on August 22, 1942: Divorces Granted Mrs. Lucy Dimmerling was granted a divorce from her husband, Edgar Dimmerling, by common Pleas Judge W. H. Smith. She was given the custody of a minor child, $10 per month alimony and $5 per month for support of the child. Plaintiff paid cost. Her attorney was Vernon Archer.
Records conflict on the spouses of Edgar Dinnerling.
1) Dolores Snider and the Social Security Death Index state that Lucy Thompson Dimmerling died in 1978, however, Edgar's obituary in the Zanesville Times Recorder lists her as a survivor.
2) Dolores Snider lists Ruby Stack as Edgar's second wife. Ruby is not mentioned in either obituary.
3) Edgar's obituary at www.mcvay-perkins.com lists two wives who preceded him in death: Lucy Thompson and Marie Morris.
Further research needs to be done to clarify the issue.
