- [S927] Obituary.
Allen Feldner, age 91, of Albion, Wash., passed away Nov. 23, 2006, after enjoying the day with his family. He was born July 17, 1915, in a farmhouse near Donnybrook, N.D., to Martha and A. Feldner. Oldest of six children, at 10 years old, Allen took on helping his mother support the family by operating the family farm. During the Depression, Allen worked in CCC Camp and various jobs. Allen and his brother, Victor, hopped a box car in 1938 and 1939 in North Dakota to seek work out West. Allen worked for a horse packer and on the construction of a road around Crater Lake, Ore. Saving their wages, they returned to the farm in North Dakota. On July 20, 1940, Jeanne King, from Donnybrook, and Allen were married in Sidney, Mont. They returned to reside and work their farm. Allen and Jeanne raised cattle, horses, wheat and three children, enjoying horseback riding and square dancing with several clubs and card parties. They sold the farm in 1968 and moved to Albion. Allen was employed as a carpenter for Food and Housing at Washington State University from 1968-1981, when he retired. He purchased a lot and developed a trailer court during the 1970s, managing it until his death. Allen loved horses and enjoyed spending much of his time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends riding and camping in many of the wilderness areas in Washington, Idaho and Oregon from 1968-2006, and he participated in many parades. He was always busy helping people and his community. In 2002, Allen was honored to be Grand Marshall in the Albion Parade. Jeanne passed away in 2003. They were happily married for 63 years. Allen continued riding with his children and grandchildren. In May 2006, he joined the John Wayne Pioneer Wagon and Riders Association annual trip across the state ride. Starting near Easton, Wash., he rode many of the 240 miles participating in the Rosalia Days Parade on the way to Tekoa. This was a two-week trip! Daughter, Elizabeth Bergan, passed away in 2000. Allen is survived by his son, Curtis Feldner; daughter-in-law, Janet; daughter, Kathy; son-in-law, Mark Booth all from Colfax; and grandchildren Clifton and Shelley Feldner, Lori and Jeff Bergan, and Jeremy and Kerry Morrison. Allen was a member of the Moose Lodge and it was his wish that memorial contributions be made to Mooseheart. Visitation will be held Nov. 28 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Bruning Funeral Home, Colfax. A funeral service will be held Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. at the Bruning Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at the Albion Cemetery.
