Catherine Rita “Katy” Madison, 88 of Woodsfield, was born Aug. 12, 1925, to the late Frederick and Martha (Schoeppner) Dick. She went to meet her Lord and God Jan. 28, 2014 at Wheeling Hospital. She married Paul Richard Madison, who passed away April 7, 1985, after 38 years of marriage. They were the parents of three children: Martha (Fred) Ackerman, Susan (Tony) Yonak, both of Woodsfield, and Paul Madison Jr., of Cambridge. She was a devout Catholic who was active in St. Sylvester Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister and she also taught CCD for many years.
She was a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Women’s Club, the St. Francis Society and St. Sylvester Purgatory Society. She was past president of St. Sylvester School Home School Association. She worked at the Woodsfield Sears catalog store and was an Avon lady, who was known for saucy hats and decorated basket as she sold her wares. She helped her two daughters at their restaurant, Katy’s Place, named for their mother, and then helped her grandson Michael, who continued the restaurant business. Her apple dumplings and pies were favorites of many customers.
Surviving, in addition to her children, are five grandchildren: Stephanie (Curt) Valkovic, Cabot, Arkansas; Fred Jr. (Kim) Ackerman, Woodsfield; Doug (Kristyn) Ackerman, Honolulu, Hawaii; Michael Jr. (Sara) Yonak, Woodsfield; and Reggie (Kelly) Yonak, Crestwood, Kentucky; 11 great-grandchildren: Chante` (Daniel) Snow, Austin, Ark.; Haleigh and Ryan Ackerman and Katherine Fickell, Woodsfield; Paul, Austin and Grace Yonak, Woodsfield; Hannah Yonak and Emmaline Miller, Crestwood, Kentucky; Kaelyn and Lucas Ackerman, Honolulu, Hawaii; and one great-great-grandson, Kayden Michael Snow, Austin, Ark.; one sister-in-law, Freda Dick, Lewisville; and one sister, Teresa (Frank) Ross, Carroll, Ohio, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were two brothers, Joseph Dick and Clarence Dick; a sister Mary (Dick) Ulrich; sister-in-law, Catherine (Sorg) Dick; and brother-in-law, Alex Ulrich.
Visitation will be held at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield Jan. 30, from 2 to 8 p.m. with Christian Wake Service, Chaplet and Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sylvester Church Jan. 31 at 10:30 a.m. with burial in St. Sylvester Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to St. Sylvester School, 119 Wayne St., Woodsfield, Ohio 43793, or Masses for Katy, St. Sylvester Church, 334 S. Main St., Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
