OBITUARY:Published in the Pine City Pioneer, page 10, Feb. 19, 2004Edna Elizabeth Wilson, 106, of Pine City, died at the Carlton County Nursing Home on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004.She was born in 1897 in Redwood Falls, the daughter of Joseph and May Garthofner.She attended the state Normal School in St. Cloud to learn to be a teacher, but most of her life was dedicated to keeping her home and raising her family.Edna and her husband, Felix (Skeel) Wilson made their home in Rush City, then moved to Pine City in 1924. Edna lived there until she was 100 years old, tending her garden of peonies, roses, irises and dahlias for many years. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds.Edna and Skeel had two boys, who both participated in WWII. Ken was killed in action during the war. Edna became a Gold Star mother and was honored on Memorial Day a number of times. She was also a member of the Heath Perkins American Legion Post 51 Auxiliary.In the late 1990s, Edna suffered a fall and contracted pneumonia. As a result, she moved to the Carlton County Nursing Home to be near her son, Harry.Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Felix (Skeel) and son, Kenneth, daughter-in-law, Arlene, brother, Joseph Garthofner, sisters, Muriel Garthofner and Lura Nelson, and her granddaughter?s husband, Craig Asp.She is survived by her son, Felix (Harry) Wilson, of Cloquet; grandchildren, Steve Wilson and wife, Beth, Thief River Falls; Debra Asp, Felicia and husband, Stan Palmer, Bloomington; great grandchildren, Casey, Matthew, Becky and Stanley, IV, and a sister, Helen Braun, Washington.Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Swanson Funeral Chapel in Pine City. The Rev. Conrad Goodwin officiated.Casketbearers were Steve Wilson, Stan Palmer, Matthew Palmer and Stanley Palmer, IV, The Heath Perkins American Legion Auxiliary was the military honor guard.Burial was at Birchwood Cemetery, Pine City.
