CUMBERLAND ? Arthur ?Art? Charles Crum Sr., 84, of Cumberland, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at his residence.
Born June 10, 1923, in Charleroi, Pa., he was the son of the late John Edward and Anna Blanche (Crock) Crum.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jeanne (Lippold) Crum, on June 16, 2006; two sisters, Catherine Buchanan and Elizabeth VanVoorhis; and five brothers, Francis, Edward, Regis, William and James Crum.
He graduated from Char-leroi High School.
Art entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He belonged to the 1019th Engineer Battalion.
He used the GI Bill to assist with tuition at Georgetown University. He graduated June 11, 1952, with a Bachelor?s Degree in Business.
Art had been self-employed as a C.P.A. since June 1961, and was practicing until the time of his death. In addition, he was one of the original teachers for the Allegany College business program. Art taught evening classes in economics and accounting for ten years. He was instrumental in Allegany College attaining their accreditation for the business program.
Art was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, serving on the parish council, advisory board, and finance committee. He was a lifelong member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Since the early 1950?s, he was an active member of the West Side Athletic Association, attending bi-monthly meetings.
Survivors include his three children, Martina A. Martin, and husband Hal, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Arthur C. Crum Jr., and wife Mary K., of Frederick, and Edward L. Crum and wife Monika, of Myersville; grandchildren, Theresa Eric, Claire and Bryan Martin, Artie, Sarah, and Matthew Crum, and Indre and Vaida Kazlauskaite.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard Finerty, OFM, Cap., celebrant.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
