Hill, Helen Margaret (McHaffie) Ypsilanti, MI Age 84, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2006 with her family by her side at Glacier Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center, Ann Arbor, MI. She was born May 17, 1922 in Ambrosia, near Point Pleasant, WV, the daughter of Roy Eugene and Margaret Belle (Pullin) McHaffie. Her family moved to Walbridge, OH when she was fourteen years old. She graduated from Walbridge High School as valedictorian of her class. On December 30, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart, LaMar J. Hill and he preceded her in death March 11, 2003. While LaMar served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, she worked as a secretary at the Rossford Ordinance Depot. After LaMarâ??s discharge, they relocated to Ypsilanti, where they raised three children and lived for 57 years. Helen worked as a bookkeeper assistant in Audit at E.M.U. for eighteen years. Her faith, nurtured as a little girl by her grandmother, was the foundation for her commitment with the First United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Church Women United and Begole Study Club. Survivors include- two daughters, Cynthia Lou (Tim) Burch and Melinda Sue (Phil) Long and one son, Rodney LaMar (Diane) Hill; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn (Dan) Platt, Scott Kenneth (Michelle) Burch, Ryan Patrick (Danielle) Burch, Brian Christopher Long, Alison Sue (Chad) Simon, Joshua LaMar Hill, Matthew Travis Hill and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Hill; twelve great grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Platt, Zachary Daniel Platt, Abigail Lynn Platt, Patrick Scott Burch, Sean Kristopher Burch, Liam Timothy Burch, Brianna Kristine Long, Harrison Reed Long, Rachel Morgan Long, Destiny Rachelle Simon, Tyler Wayne Simon and Elizabeth Sue Simon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, David, infant daughter, Shelley; brothers, Eugene (Effie) McHaffie and Pat (Lucy) McHaffie, and sisters, Anne Fausey and Peggy (Mike) Kusner. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Thursday, August 10 at First United Methodist Church, 209 Washtenaw, Ypsilanti with Rev. Melanie Carey officiating. Burial will be in Lake Township Cemetery, Walbridge, OH. Contributions in her memory may be made to either the First United Methodist Church or Arbor Hospice Home Care.
