Rita A. Smithberger, 71, of Reyoldsburg, died peacefully,
July 10, 2005, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was
born on December 4, 1933, the oldest of seven children, to
Sebastian and Freda Crock in Caldwell, Ohio.
She graduated Valedictorian of the 1951 Class of Caldwell
High School and attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
She served as a greatly loved volunteer with Reynoldsburg
Cancer Thrift Shop for almost 25 years. She was also the 1991
Senior Tomato Festival Queen of the Senior Citizens of Reynolds-
burg.
She is survived by Norbert, her husband of 51 years, and
her children, Marion (Carol) Smithberger, Margaret (Dan) Root,
Paul (Kathy) Smithberger; grandchildren Mandy, Lindsay, Jordan,
Haley, and Meagan; brothers and sisters, Rosemary (Vernon)
Schott, Kenneth (Donna) Crock, Fred (Martha) Crock, Debra (Ken)
Stottsberry, and Barbara Crock; and aunts, Pearl Estadt and Clara
Crock.
Her family received friends at the Cotner Funeral Home,
7369 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at St. Pius X Church, 1051 S. Waggoner Rd., on
Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at 10 a.m. followed by internment
at Holy Cross Cemetery.
