Frieda M. Baier was born May 5, 1916 southeast of Delmont, one of nine children to Fredrick and Susanna (Bender) Weisser. She died Thursday, January 2, 2020 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Frieda was baptized at the Reformed Church south of Delmont by Rev. Funk in May of 1916. She was confirmed on June 22, 1930 at the Bethany Reformed Church in Delmont by Rev. Schield.
Frieda attended Klein country school. During high school, Frieda participated in the National Youth Administration program created by President Roosevelt in the 1930s to help combat the nationwide poverty.
Frieda was united in marriage to Emil Baier on March 22, 1943 at Hartington, NE by Rev. O.L. Leverson. Together they farmed three miles north of Delmont. They resided there until moving into Delmont in 1966. While on the farm she helped with outside chores, raised chickens and enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. Emil died in December of 1991. She continued to live on her own in Delmont for many years. Frieda enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading, bottle collecting and antique shopping. She will be remembered for her love of spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Frieda was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church and their ladies group. Her strong faith helped her through the difficult times in her life. It was very important to her until the very end of her life.
Thankful for having shared her life are her son Joel and wife Sandy Baier of Delmont; four grandchildren: Reese (Lisa) Baier, Kallie (Pat) Booth, Teresa (Reed) Campbell and Ryan Baier; seven great grandkids: Hannah Baier, Seth Baier, Victoria Booth, Holden Campbell, Emilia Campbell, Carter Baier and Cade Baier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
