Dennis Abell
VAN BUREN -- Mr. Dennis Abell, 66, of Van Buren, OH, passed away at 9:20 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2006 while in the company of family members at his residence.
Mr. Abell was born in Findlay, Ohio on June 24, 1939, the son of the late Donald and Jennie Anne (Newhart) Abell.
He was the husband of Lynda (Woodward) Abell, she survives him. They were married on April 21, 1971.
Dennis is survived by 2 daughters: Kim Cameron of Findlay, OH; Dawn Abell of McComb, OH; 1 son: Dennis Abell of Walton, KY; 2 step-daughters: Tina Tate of Reynoldsburg, OH; Joan Bush of Van Buren, OH ; 1 stepson: Jim Amos of Arcadia, OH; and 1 sister Shirley Staples of Findlay, OH. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by a sister: Sondra Pickens and a stepson: Bret Amos.
He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He retired from the United States Army as a Sgt. First Class in 1984 and returned to the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in Huntsville, AL as a civilian. He retired in 2001. During his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm leaf, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-3, NCO Professional Development Ribbon-3, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Expert Badge (M-16), and the Army Achievement Medal.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Memorial Services will be held at Routson Funeral Chapel, Findlay, OH on Friday, June 2, 2006 at the convenience of the family with Sr. Pastor Darrell Ramsey officiating. The Hancock County Memorial Squad will be performing Military Rites.
