Mildred J. Bachmann
BACHMANN, Mildred J. ?Jackie,? 86, of Bethlehem, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2007, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.
She was born July 13, 1920, in Romney, W.Va.; and was a Presbyterian by faith.
Mrs. Bachmann was a graduate of WVU and the WVU School of Law receiving her LLB Degree in 1943, and graduating in the same class with her future husband, Gilbert S. Bachmann. She worked in the General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., until 1945 in War Contracts Review Section.
Her early activities were PTA; Cub Scout Den Mother; Sunday School Teacher; and Little League Boosters, etc. She later did community related activities having been a Chairman of the Art Committee of Oglebay Institute; member of the Board of Directors of Wheeling Hospital; the old Board of Governors of WVU, including a term as Secretary and one as Vice President; served as a representative to the National Association of Governing Boards; West Virginia Educational Broadcasting Authority; the President?s Commission of the Status of Women; the National Friends of Public Broadcasting; member and Chairman for several years of the Advisory Committee of WWVU-TV; and served as Lay Representative from the station to PBS.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert S. Bachmann, whom she married in 1946. He is a member of the law firm of Bachmann, Hess, Bachmann, and Garden. Also surviving are a son, Mark Edward Bachmann and his wife, Tessa, of Westport, Conn. Mark is a Managing Director with Standard and Poor?s in New York City, N.Y. He has three sons, Carl James Bachmann with the US Navy stationed in Tokyo, Japan, Matthew Knapp Bachmann attending Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., and John Clayton Bachmann at home in Westport.
Friends are invited to attend services on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at 10 a.m., at the Greenwood Cemetery Chapel, Wheeling, with the Reverend David Lawrence officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
