TRAVERSE CITY - Firman Joseph Flees, 80, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Munson Medical Center. Born June 25, 1924, in Leelanau County, Firman was the son of Domazy and Mary (Steimel) Flees.
Firman, who was a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, was a self-employed barber most of his life.
He is survived by his first wife, Emma O'Brien; seven children, Sharon Houdek of Florida, Mary (Jay) Gearhart of Traverse City, Jean Jesseys of Florida, Joseph (Betty) Flees of Cedar, Elsie (Woody) Campbell of Traverse City, Tom Flees of Traverse City and Dan Flees of Copemish; two stepchildren, Steve and Mary; three brothers, William Flees of Mesa, Ariz., Jim Flees of Suttons Bay and John Flees of Shelby Township; three sisters, Dorothy Walters of Traverse City, Patricia Brown of Traverse City and Diane Wilson of Mulliken.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Francis Walters; two infant sisters; and his second wife, Vonnie Priest.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be on Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at 3 p.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, with Fr. Michael Janowski officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Foundation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
