Mary T. Guterl
AGE: 98 • Sea Girt
Mary T. Guterl, our beloved mother passed peacefully on December 29, 2012. She was born on February 5, 1914 in Jersey City, NJ. Beginning in 1971, with her husband Arthur C. Guterl, Sr., she resided for many years in Sea Girt, NJ. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, summa cum laude. Mary taught art in the Jersey City school district. After marrying and starting a family, she continued her career as an artist, exhibiting in many art shows and winning numerous awards. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at the art gallery of Seton Hall University, at the Monmouth County Library and she is included in the CLARA database at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur C. Guterl who was her best friend. She is also predeceased by her parents Joseph and Teresa Norton, sisters Dorothy and Eileen Norton and brother Joseph Norton, Jr. She leaves behind to remember, her children Arthur, Jr. and Carol Guterl of Sea Girt, Mary and Harry Swain, Jr. of Egg Harbor Twp., Joseph and Maryanne Guterl of Bridgewater, James and Gail Guterl of West Chester, PA, Elizabeth and Gerald Eldridge of Manasquan, Dorothy and J Hartley Bowen of Morganton, NC and Peter and Wendie Guterl of Bethesda, MD.
Her grandchildren gave her great pride and joy. They are Suzanne, Harry III, Christopher, Brian, Joseph, Jr., Kate, Maggie, James, Jr., Michelle, J Hartley IV, Wittney and Jeremy. Mary also leaves her 11 dear great grandchildren.
Visiting hours are from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 3 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, January 4, 2013 9:30am at St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt, NJ. Burial will follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery, Wall.
