Paul F. Somerville
Paul F. Somerville, 82, of Washington, W.Va., died Sept. 22, 2005, at his residence.
He was born in Parkersburg, the son of the late Fred J. and Ada Ludwig Somerville. He was a 1941 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps and serving in campaigns in Normandy, Rhineland and northern France. He was held as a prisoner of war for seven months and was awarded three Air Medals and the Purple Heart. He retired from E.I. Dupont after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Washington Bottom Volunteer Fire Department. He was appointed by the county commission as the Lubeck Public Service commissioner. He was a member of the 386 Bomb Group "GP." He was a life member of the DAV, the Parkersburg VFW Post 1212, the Parkersburg American Legion Post 15, the American Ex-Prisoner of War Association and the Caterpillar Club. He was a 50-year member of the Parkersburg Masonic Lodge 3.
He is survived by his son, Dean F. Somerville and his wife, Lisa C., of Canton, Ohio; his granddaughter, Anna Louise Somerville; one brother, G. Lee Somerville of Parkersburg; and one sister, Helen Ruth McDougle of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Harris Somerville.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with the Rev. Elwood Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the Parkersburg Memorial Gardens with full military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. until service time Saturday.
