William E. Pillion, 91, of Lancaster, died peacefully in his home on Friday, June 14, 2013. He was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, Marie V. (Dolan) Pillion (2000) and also by his second wife, Rita A. Manion (2009).
He retired in 1984 as Manager of Food Services for Armstrong World Industries at the Lancaster Floor Plant.
Born on March 21, 1922, in Astoria, NY, he was the fourth of nine children of the late William E. Pillion, Sr. and Anna (Peters) Pillion and spent his childhood in Lakewood, NJ. Bill graduated from the Army ROTC program at Rutgers University in 1943 with a BS degree in Business Administration.
A devout Roman Catholic, who lived his faith daily, Bill was a longtime active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church for over 50 years, where he took pride in running the annual Thanksgiving dinner. More recently, he was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Bill cherished life at his second home in Sea Isle City, NJ and spending time with his beloved family.
Bill served as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in World War II as part of the Italian Campaign. He received a Bronze Star Medal for Heroic Achievement in Action and was very honored and proud to serve his country.
Surviving are two sons, Richard J. married to Susan Pillion, and Kevin P., both of Lancaster; a daughter, Kathleen P., married to Parker S. Jones of Landisville; three grandchildren, Steven Pillion and Colleen and Timothy Jones; two sisters, Virginia Matthews of Bricktown, NJ and Kathleen Bordonali of Oldsmar, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 11 AM (Visitation 10-11AM) with Father Mark E. Weiss as Celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA with Military Honors.
