Gertrude was the oldest of 9 children including: Raymond (Lydia Lenzen) - 6 children, Alphonse, nickname Mutz (Agnes Knosowski) - no children, George - no children, William (Rose Gothman) - 4 children, Elizabeth (David Singelton) - no children, Annie (John Logelin)- 3 children, Lena (August Graff) - 7 children and an infant who died at birth. The Allmann's lived on a 40-acre farm until 1907 and then Gertrude's father and Uncle Ben Simon moved to and operated the North Star Hotel in Waconia, and then moved to her grandparents 250-acre farm in 1911. Gertrude's mother Katherine (Katie) was small, very shy and sweet. She worked very hard in the house and had a beautiful garden. She was a wonderful cook and baker, liked to whistle, dance and play cards. Gertrude's father William was a 'big man', bald with a moustache. He was a councilman and fireman. He would gather with groups of men and sing German songs, attend 'skat' tournaments and host card parties. Gertrude and brother Mutz had diphtheria around 1909. Gertrude also had the Asian flu at age 19. Gertrude attended St. Joseph's catholic school and took classes in both English and German, and after graduating from high school, attended the Minneapolis Business College. Gertrude married Clifford J. Branigan in April, 1931 and had 4 daughters, Mary Lou (Ernest Runeborg), Susan (James Eikenberry), Katherine (Duane Hammer), Gertrude (Richard Anderson). The Branigans lived at 3641 15th Ave S in Minneapolis from 1935 until their deaths.
