Harvey J. Dick, Sr.Harvey J. Dick, Sr., President of W.H. Dick Construction Company, passed away at age 86. His firm built over 60 Catholic institutions, churches, schools, convents, rectories, monasteries, and hospital additions in northeastern Ohio. Mr. Dick surveyed and laid out 90% of his projects. He was a member of American General Contractors Associations, Builders Exchange of Cleveland, OH, Knights of Columbus in Cleveland, Chagrin Valley Country Club 35 years, and the N. Canton Eagles. He was also a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant with the 37th Division Headquarters who served in the South Pacific during World War II. When Mr. Dick moved to Canton he had no acquaintances in Stark County. As an avid golfer he needed to find a few golfers. At his wife?s suggestion he placed a notice in St. Michael?s Church Bulletin. As a result there are 35 members of St. Michael?s Senior Golf League. Friends met people they hadn?t seen since school days and they al; enjoyed reminiscing the past while playing golf. Mr. Dick donated over one million dollars in grants, trusts, and to other charitable institutions, most of the estate went to Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in memory of his late son, Harvey Dick Jr. Mr. Dick was a member of St. Michael?s Catholic Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, his son, Harvey Jr., three infant sons and two infant daughters. He is survived by his sister, Sister Jean Marie Dick, a sister of Notre Dame. Also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Dick, and two sisters, Lauretta Feran and Lois Cramer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael?s Catholic Church, Canton, OH, with Fr. Bradford Helman as Celebrant. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home, 1353 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, OH, and Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, corner of Fulton and Whipple Ave. NW, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Harvey J. And Elsie Dick Charitable Fund for Mentally Retarded and Developmentally Disabled, c/o The Stark Community Foundation, 220 Market Ave. South, Canton, Ohio 44702.
