EL CAMPO - Bertha Bernice Jensen, age 92, of El Campo, and formerly of Blessing, passed away on Feb. 4, 2009. She was born on Aug. 17, 1916, in Pierce, to the late Robert and Minnie Wilcoxen Schutte. She graduated from Wharton High School and entered into nursing school. She enjoyed her profession by helping others. She married Carl Jensen in 1939 and lived near Blessing. She was a member of the Danevang Lutheran Church and had served on the Church Council. She was very active with the "Lutheran Church Women" having served as president and secretary. She joined the El Maton Demonstration Club in 1939 and held the offices of president and secretary, served as president of the Midfield Homemakers Club, a 50-year member of the Extension Club, past member of the Matagorda County Aggie Moms, and also had been very active in the Tidehaven Booster Club. She loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, playing bridge and 42, attending the Senior Citizens Dance Group, and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Carlton Jensen and wife Dawn of Calgary, Canada; daughter-in-law, Patty Jensen of Danevang; son-in-law, C.W. Rush of Markham; brother, Sidney Schutte and wife Mary of Corsicana; grandchildren, Carl H. Jensen, Brian H. Jensen, Kyle Jensen and Wade Rush; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Julia Jensen, Jackson and Brianna Jensen, Hayden and Madison Rush. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl O. Jensen; son, Curtis H. Jensen; daughter, Carlene Rush; grandson, Dean Rush; sister, Evelyn Smith; brother, R.O. "Bob" Schutte; and sister-in-law, Norma Schutte. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at Danevang Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Willmann officiating. Burial will follow in Danevang Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers are Carl H. Jensen, Brian Jensen, Wade Rush, Brad Schutte, Sam Schutte, and Paul Jensen. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Jensen, Gary Schutte, Larry Schutte, Ronnie Davis, and Artie Jensen.
