Dorothy A. Bott Schmitt, 81, of Wheeling, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
She was born on April 29, 1929 in Wheeling, a daughter of the late William "Ed" Bott and Anna Pilversack Bott. She was a 1947 graduate of Triadelphia High School, a former employee of Half Dollar Bank, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus Carroll Ladies, a member of St. Michael Parish Christian Mothers and a member of the Funeral Choir at St. Vincent de Paul.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel Hasenauer.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Robert H. Schmitt, Sr.; five children, Barbara Burns and her husband William of Greenville, S.C., Nancy LaBrosse and her husband David of Wheeling, David W. Schmitt and his wife Misty of Rocky Mount, N.C., Carolyn " Carol" Rader and her husband Fred of Vienna, W.Va. and Robert H. Schmitt, Jr. and his wife Elena of Hamdem, Conn.; a sister, Vera Gantzer Witzberger and her husband Ed; 10 grandchildren, William C. Burns III, Bryan Burns, Elizabeth Burns, Anne LaBrosse Wershing, Garrett LaBrosse, Michael Schmitt, Kristin Schmitt, Emily Rader, Eric Rader and Phillip Schmitt; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Burns and Caroline Burns.
Friends will be received at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Msgr. Kevin M. Quirk as celebrant. Internment will be held in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 2244 Marshall Ave., Wheeling or Good Shepherd Nursing Home, 159 Edgington Lane, Wheeling.
