Julius Mohr, 99, Hosmer, SD, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hosmer, with Pastor Patrick Hahn leading the service. Burial follows at Bethany Cemetery, Hosmer. Organist will be Wesley Schaible and the congregation will sing “How great thou Art” and “Amazing Grace”. The Prairie Harmony Singers will sing “Precious Memories” and “What a day that will Be”. Ushers will be Vernon Walth and Milton Mohr.
Funeral Home visitation will be noon Friday-11:00 AM Saturday and resume 1:00 PM at the Church. There will be a prayer service at the funeral home 7:00 PM Friday.
Julius Mohr, son of Fredericka (Stoecker) and Gottfried Mohr, was born October 6, 1911 on their farm in Blaine TWSHP, McPherson Co, 12 miles NE of Hosmer. This is where he was raised and attended Blaine TWSHP #2 Rural School. His schooling ended in the 7th grade, when he was needed at home to help his mother. He married Magdalena Guthmiller at Jehovah Lutheran Church NE of Hosmer on September 27, 1936. They lived on the farm until 1964, when they moved into Hosmer where Julius took a job with his brother at Jake Mohr and Sons Construction. At age 65, he retired and worked part-time briefly at the Hosmer Lumber Company. He and Magdalena also were janitors at St. John’s Lutheran Church for nine years. Since August 2004, Julius had lived at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. He belonged to Jehovah Lutheran Church until it dissolved in 1957. Since that time he had belonged to St. John’s Church in Hosmer. He also belonged to the Hosmer Senior Citizens Center. Fishing was Julius’s favorite pastime. He also enjoyed playing cards and, as a younger man, bowling.
Julius is survived by Magdalena, his wife of 74 years; 1 son-James (Marcella) Mohr of Hosmer; daughter-in-law Mary Lou Mohr of Hosmer; 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father on August 2, 1924, his mother on April 8, 1955, 1 son, Floyd, on May 1, 2011, 8 brothers(Frederick, Christian, Gottlieb, Gottfried, Jacob, William, Theobold, and an infant) and 4 sisters(Rosina Werner, Katherine Mohr, Barbara “Margaret” Martell, and Magdalena Guthmiller).
Honorary bearers will be great grandchildren—Allison and Rachel Geier, and Kipp, Colton, and Mitch Mohr.
Casketbearers will be Julius’s Grandchildren-Jeffery (Cathy) Mohr of Hosmer and Carol (Kenny) Geier of Roscoe, SD, as well as Charles Mohr and Wylie Mohr of Hosmer.
