Frances (Fuzzy) Mosbrucker Hedman was born on Dec. 17, 1922 to Raphael and Suzannah (Hirsch) Mosbrucker. She acquired the name Fuzzy when she started at Star County School north of Bowman. There was a girl graduating named Frances, who had the nickname of “fuzzy” because of her hair. The students passed the name on down to the little first grader. Fuzzy graduated from Bowman High School in 1940. Fuzzy started working at an early age helping neighbors and family with cooking, sewing, and cleaning. During high school she worked at the Gerhert Hotel where she cleaned and beat feather ticks with a broom.
She cooked for the coal miners, was a store clerk at Jameses, worked in a beauty shop, and during the war she measured gunpowder into envelopes at American Colloid. She even spent a summer helping her sister by covering her mail route for her in Washington state.
When Fuzzy married Warren Hedman on June 27, 1945 she officially changed her name to Fuzzy as her sister-in- law had not only the same first name but same middle initial. Warren and Fuzzy were blessed with four daughters.
Fuzzy kept busy with the girls, being a full time farmwife, raising a huge garden, doing embroidery work and sewing; and participating in church and homemaker club activities. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, hunting, dancing and traveling with Warren. They put on hundreds of miles traveling to horseshoe tournaments in and around the surrounding states. She would seldom turn down a chance to play cards, go to a casino, or watch any sporting event. When winter approached in 2013 Fuzzy moved into an apartment in Scranton where she resided until the time of her death.
Fuzzy is survived by daughters: Charlotte (Dean) Kahrs of Scranton, N.D., Deb Weeks of Lead, S.D., JoEll (Larry) Nieters Bismarck, N.D., and Sheila (Dale) Nelson of Billings, Mont., sister-in-law Eileen Mosbrucker of Bowman; Grandchildren; Sue Erickson and Ed Kahrs, Kelly and Yuma Weeks, Justin, Grant and Ryan Nieters and Kyle and Scott Nelson; Eleven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Fuzzy was preceded in death by her husband Warren Hedman, grandson Brian Kahrs, and son-in-law Burton Weeks. Her parents Raphael and Susie Mosbrucker, sisters and brothers Anna Dickman, Elizabeth Wheeler, Frank Mosbrucker, Nick Mosbrucker, Tony Mosbrucker, Roszella Blees, Madeline Lutz, Rachel Wheeler, Genevieve Volk, Josephine Andrews, Barbara Kappen, Pete Mosbrucker, and infant brother Clemence.
