Lawrence Lloyd McNeil
Died August 9, 1999
TRAVERSE CITY - Lawrence Lloyd McNeil, 69, of Traverse City, died Monday at his home after a long illness. Larry is now home with the Lord whom he loved. To be absent from the body is to be present in the spirit with the Lord.
Born July 10, 1930, in Lake Leelanau, he was the son of Lorin Baker and Gertrude (Schaub) McNeil. On June 27, 1953, in Holy Rosary Church in Isadore, he married Alice Ann Popa.
A resident of the area all his life, Larry attended St. Mary's school in Lake Leelanau. He served in the Air Force during the Korean war with the 7505 Hospital Group. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he worked at Cone Drive with 40 years of service. Larry was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the UAW Local 21 Retirees Club and a life member of the VFW Post 2780. An avid archer and hunter, he loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed softball, watching baseball and his yard. His house was his castle and his home was his refuge.
He is survived by his wife; children, Michael and Chris (Jack) Olman - both of Traverse City, Tom of Interlochen and Kay of Mt. Pleasant; brothers, Gerald (Ethyl) McNeil, Leonard McNeil and Arthur (Elinor) McNeil - all of Lake Leelanau; sisters, Dorothy Plamondon of Traverse City, Margaret Williams of Ypsilanti and Theresa (Gerry) LaRose of Bella Vista, Ark; two grandchildren, Shane and Alicia Olman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Francis in infancy; a brother, Jim McNeil and a sister, Cecelia Williams.

James Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens with military graveside services being conducted by Cherryland VFW Post 2780.
