L.W. (Bill) Lamb Jr., age 88, of Holland, passed away, Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Hospice House of Holland.
Bill was born in South Haven, MI on October 5, 1924 to Lawrence and Hazel (Decker) Lamb Sr. He graduated from Holland High School in 1942 and had attended Hope College. From 1943-1946, Bill served in the United States Army Air Corps. during WWII, as a pilot, flying C-47's. In 1947, he joined his father at LW Lamb Construction (highway and bridge construction). He and his brothers also owned Lamb Auto and Industrial Supply. Bill was elected, in 1967, to the Holland City Council for a four year term and in 1971 he was elected the Mayor of Holland. Bill was a member of the Maplewood School Board, was on the board of directors for both the American Road Builders Association and the Michigan Road Builders Association and the Michigan Road Builders Association. He was Chairman of the Labor Relation Divisions and served as the Associations President in 1966. In the 1970's, Bill served on the boards of First Michigan Bank, Child and Family Services, and Resthaven Patrons, Inc. Bill was a longtime member of Hope Church and served on the building committee, deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and was also on many committees within the church. In the 1950's Bill served as President of RCA Classis in Holland.
Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie of 63 years, in 2012 and a son, Larry Lamb in 1987.
He is survived by his sons, Ross and Leesa Lamb and Fred and Denise Lamb; grandchildren, Dexter Lamb, Maggie Lamb, Amy Lamb, Audrey Lamb, Kirsten Lamb, Taylor and Chris Visscher; great grandchildren, Brylan McConnell and Sophie Visscher; brother, Jack and Lois Lamb; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 11 am Saturday at Hope Church, 77 West 11th Street, with the Rev. Jill Russell officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Church Maintenance Fund or Resthaven Care Community.
Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Homes-Mulder Chapel.
