Marvel M. Sarasin Died April 4, 2005 KEWADIN - Marvel M. Sarasin, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4, 2005, surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City. Marvel was born Feb. 19, 1913, in Old Mission, the ninth child of 14 children born to Charles and Ellen (Mannor) Weatherholt . She attended Bates grade school and graduated in 1932 from St. Francis High School. On Nov. 30, 1939, at St. Francis Catholic Church, she married Philip M. Sarasin, who preceded her in death in 1988. Marvel was a homemaker and deputy township clerk for Milton Township. A woman who enjoyed the outdoors, reading and history, Marvel dearly loved her family and grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ellen Sarasin of Kewadin, Ann (Thomas) Jannereth of Byron Center, Kathleen (Bill) Edwardson of Elk Rapids and Rita Wier of Kewadin; two sons, Philip (Darlene) Sarasin and Frank (Roxanne) Sarasin, both of Kewadin; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vincent (Betty) Weatherholt of Monroe; her brother-in-law, Jim (Edith) Sarasin of Traverse City; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Marvin Monroe and Susan Hansen. Marvel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philip M. Sarasin in 1988; her grandson, Jason Edwardson; great-granddaughter, Emily Rose Sarasin; eight brothers, Clarence, John, Frank, Charles, Leo, Albert, Julius and Thomas Weatherholt; and four sisters, Alta Weatherholt, Edith LaBatt, Gertrude Jahnke and Margaret Weatherholt. Visitation will be held today, April 7, 2005, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m., from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, where a rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m., and Evening Prayer for the Dead from the Liturgy of the Hours at 6:30 p.m. A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Friday, April 8, 2005, at 10 a.m., also at the church, with the Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski serving as celebrant. The family will have additional visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Kewadin. Memorials may be given in Marvel's name to the Elk Rapids Ambulance, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or Mass Intentions. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Covell Funeral Homes in Elk Rapids.
