Ginny was born Sept. 5, 1926 at home in Bayonne, NJ. She lived in Elizabeth and Linden before moving to Cranford 50 years ago. She worked as a secretary for seven years, before retiring in 1989, for her dear friend, the late Peggy Coloney, former president of the Center for Hope Hospice in Roselle. Before her marriage in 1953, she worked as a secretary for Tidewater Oil Company (Getty) in New York City for nine years. Ginny was a volunteer for many years with Helping Hands and Hearts soup kitchen of Saint Helen's Church in Westfield. She had been a volunteer at Saint Elizabeth's hospital (now Trinitas Regional Medical Center) for two years and worked 2,000 hours in the crisis office. Ginny was also an active volunteer at the Center for Hope Hospice from 1989 until her death and volunteered at the Child Placement Board of Union County. She was a former councilmember of Saint John the Apostle Church of Clark and was involved in many CYO and school activities at Saint John's School. Ginny and her husband Bill were honored in 1959 by Archbishop Thomas Boland for outstanding service as members of the Joint Cana and Pre-Cana Board of the Newark Archdiocese. They worked for five years as chairmen of the Pre-Cana Couple's Panel. She was a member of the Sunny Acres Civic Association, Cranford Historical Society, and a lifetime member of the Auxiliary of the Trinitas. She also was a member of the Renew Sharing Group at Saint Helen's Church. Ginny is survived by her beloved husband, Bill, of 55 years and five children; son, Paul McDonough of Manhattan, and daughters, Jane McDonough Daly and husband, Jim, of Cranford, and Kathleen McDonough and husband, Scott Grossman, of Los Angeles, Calif. and twins, daughter Laurie McDonough and partner Heather Hendershot, of Manasquan; son Christopher McDonough and wife Coleen of Cranford; her life's joy, her grandchildren Billy Daly and Shannon Daly of Cranford, and Declan McDonough Grossman of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Mary VanBuskirk of Madison; brothers, Thomas Ehrhart of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and James Joseph Ehrhart of Boca Raton, Fla., and many nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends; aso surviving her are her grand-dogs, Gypsy and Cooper.
