OCEAN SPRINGS --- Lillie Catherine Chinn Joachim, 84, died Friday, July 5, 2002, in Ocean Springs, Ms.
In 1940 she began her employment career as a secretary in the Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. Following America's entrance into World War II, she returned to Biloxi with her husband, Mark, who at that time entered the Army Air Force for four years.
A 1934 graduate of Biloxi High School, Catherine in later years continued other studies at Jackson County Junior College, ranging from computer science and word processing to drama, voice and piano study. At age 68, she began her local acting career by performing with most of the coast theater groups. Her credits include more than 40 plays, musicals and concerts. In June of 1991 she received the coveted Bravo Award as Best Supporting Actress from Biloxi Little Theater for her performance in "Girls of the Garden Club".
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Edwardine Chinn; four sisters, Alice James, Julia Wellman, Mildred Mallett and Marion Huber.
She is survived by her husband, Mark G. Joachim of Ocean Springs; three sons Mark G. Joachim of Marietta, Ga., Richard Joachim of Artesia, N.M., and David Joachim of Slidell; one daughter, Cathy Bryant of Marietta, Ga.; one sister, Elizabeth Byrd of Ocean Springs; and one brother, David Chinn of Biloxi; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs with Rosary at 7 p.m.
An 11 a.m. mass will be held Monday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi. 2002 The Sun Herald
