Lt. Col. Burkhardt, age 89 of San Antonio passed away 25 March 2011. A native of Braddock Hills Borough Pennsylvania, Peck trained as a pilot in the Army Air Corps and served his country as a USAF Pilot flying missions in a B-24 during WWII. Following WWII, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, married Beverly Gulick of Williamsport, Pennsylvania and was recalled to military service for the Korean Conflict. During this period he became an Aircraft Maintenance Staff Officer and served in this capacity for the remainder of his career including Vietnam. He flew Combat Sorties in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He served four years in Norway with the MAAG, retired from the military in 1970 and became a licensed homebuilder in Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Beverly; daughter, Patricia Leahy and son-in-law, Mike Leahy of Colorado Springs; grandsons, Michael and Matthew; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Marylane Conner, Irmina Thompson; brothers, Eugene and Raymond Burkhardt and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Army Residence Community Chapel on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. Interment will be at Monument, Colorado with full military honors.
