Former Mayor Dies at 81
Allen J. Phillips, 81, 623 Park St., Barnesville, died Sat., April 30, 1994 at his home. He was born Jan. 4, 1913 in Barnesville, a son of the late Ross and Emma Myers Phillips.
He was a former mayor of Barnesville serving 12 years and manager of Kennedy's Hardware at Barnesville. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and also served in the Coast Guard. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, VFW Post 2792, BPOE Lodge 1699, past commander of American Legion Post 168, past president of the Rotary Club, and former Boy Scout leader, all at Barnesville.
One brother, Herbert Phillips, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene C. VanDyne Phillips; one son, Brent of the home; one sister, Adda I. Montgomery of Barnesville.
Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Woods officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Northern Cemetery.
