Subject: Philip H. Scher
Message: From the Huntington Herald Press Online, August 8, 2001 Philip H. Scher, 72, 1466N Etna Rd., died at his home at 7:38 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 7, 2001). Mr. Scher retired as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was a graduate of Huntington Catholic High School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Postal Retirees Association and the Roanoke American Legion. He was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Huntington, a son of Herman and Mamie Landrigan Scher. He married Virginia Larr Scher June 15, 1994; his wife survives. Additional survivors include three daughters, Kathy Harrell and Mrs. Denny (Linda) Leist, both of Huntington, and Teresa Baker, Marion; a son, Denny Scher, Sandusky, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Diane Pequignot, Columbia City, and Susan M. Scher, Brownsburg; two stepsons, Michael L. Scher, Huntington, and Patrick L. Scher, Golden, Colo.; five sisters, Patricia Meyer of Fort Wayne, Kate Bauer of Roanoke, Virginia Bauer of Roanoke, Mary Juergens of Syracuse, and Mert Pyle of Huntington; three brothers, Tom Scher, Lou Scher, and Leonard Scher, all of Huntington; 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren. A brother, Walter Francis Scher, is deceased. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m., at Hart Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Huntington Parkview Hospice or SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in care of Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington IN 46750.
